Indigenous Knowledge and Approaches to Climate Change
and Resilience
This thematic area emphasizes Indigenous Governance and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), creating a rich foundation for exploring the intersections among infrastructural, ecological, and social resilience. Our work, in collaboration with the Institute for New England Native American Studies, directs university expertise and resources to support Tribal communities develop disaster preparedness plans and long term strategizing around infrastructure needs. This is coupled with an emphasis on supporting Indigenous and Native American communities' efforts to preserve TEK in their communities. Community-Based Participatory Research of Tribal formal and informal governance and decision-making advances understandings of social resilience, or how communities connect and work together to promote well-being.
