Elora Halim Chowdhury is Professor and Chair of the Department of Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She also directs a program in Human Rights. Her research and teaching interests include transnational feminisms, critical development studies, gender violence, human rights, narrative, and film with an emphasis on South Asia. She is the author of numerous books, most recently, Ethical Encounters: Transnational Feminism, Human Rights, and War Cinema in Bangladesh (2023). Her book, Transnationalism Reversed: Women Organizing Against Gendered Violence in Bangladesh (SUNY Press, 2011,) was awarded the National Women's Studies Association Gloria Anzaldua book prize in 2012. Professor Chowdhury received her PhD in Women's Studies from Clark University.
